Being powerful is taking command over your own emotions, behaviour and actions for the betterment of your world.
Sometimes though, this may be challenging due to illness, fatigue etc
So here are some steps I feel help me to regain my focus in being the best of me. I hope this is of benefit to you as well.
* Think before you speak;
It is important to take a moment to think carefully before you speak. This ensures that your words are measured and appropriate for the situation at hand, whilst being true to you.
* Make eye contact;
Making eye contact is crucial in communication, as it fosters a sense of connection and engagement with the person you are interacting with. Can you see your own reflection in their eye?
* Be respectful;
Always strive to be respectful towards others, recognising their perspectives and feelings, which helps build stronger relationships and trust. This does not mean you may agree with them. It is simply being non-judgemental of another entity.
* Be calm;
Maintaining a calm demeanour, even in challenging situations, allows for clearer communication and demonstrates emotional intelligence.
* Be observant;
This enables you to pick up on non-verbal cues and the overall atmosphere, which can inform your responses and actions.
* Be present;
Have you ever found yourself in a conversation, zoning out and missing everything the other person said? Or maybe you’ve been introduced to someone and forgotten their name moments later? Being present means fully focusing on the 'now'. Think about what you might miss by not being present in important moments. Also, people love to hear their name.
* Move with silent assurance;
For one: there is nothing more annoying than someone loudly intruding upon your space. Also, conveying confidence and grace in your actions can positively influence how others perceive you.
* Talk less;
I find this the most challenging, and am still in the process of mastering it.
It often requires discipline to listen more and speak only when necessary. As I talk for a living, I need to create my own 'off switch' when not working. All want to be seen, all want to be heard. Talking too much takes away time and energy from others. I cant imagine the missed opportunities I have had from hearing another's wisdom instead of my own voice.
Thank you for reading this, I appreciate your time and being present.
